Synopsis

In a Washington DC office, Presidential hopeful Senator Jasper Irving (Cruise) is attempting to convince a veteran TV journalist (Streep) of the merits of his bold new war strategy. At the same time in a West Coast University, a once idealistic professor (Redford) is confronting a privileged but blasé student in danger of never fulfilling his enormous potential. Meanwhile, across the globe in Afghanistan, two US soldiers, are engaged in a battle for survival. Unfolding in real time, all three events are intimately connected.
