Kenneth Branagh directs this brilliant remake of the 1972 classic Sleuth, which starred Laurence Olivier and Michael Caine. Caine makes a welcome return in this contemporary adaptation alongside Jude Law, with a new script by Nobel Prize winning playwright Harold Pinter. It is the story of Andrew Wyke (Caine), a canny, ageing writer whose wife is having an affair. When a mysterious young actor (Law) turns up on his doorstep demanding Wyke divorce his wife so he can marry her, Wyke is determined he won't give in without a fight. A battle of the mind ensues, which turns more sinister the deeper it goes. A brilliantly conceived game of cat-and-mouse, Sleuth will have you on the edge of your seat until the credits roll.
"Language this lethal has all but disappeared from the movies, and it's an unmitigated pleasure to observe Caine and Law attack it with such ferocity. Sleuth is nasty fun."
Los Angeles Times
"A grand exercise in watching two marvellous actors rip into some crackling dialogue fascinating to watch."
Arizona Republic
"A wickedly entertaining four-man tour de force, Sleuth transforms Anthony Shaffer's Tony-winning, rather than rehashing the fine 1972 movie version."
Globe and Mail
"Caine and Law are in fine form bantering cleverly in this entertaining cat-and-mouse game, thanks to the inspired dialogue of Harold Pinter."
