St.George OpenAir Cinema is a festival of film and celebration of Sydney’s amazing lifestyle. Each summer more than 60 000 Sydneysiders and visitors join us on Sydney Harbour to enjoy fine food and wine, and the best in new release film screened against a stunning backdrop that spans the Harbour Bridge, Opera House, and city skyline.
From early evening, more than a thousand patrons gather at the Event’s harbourside restaurant and bar, wining, dining and enjoying the vibrant atmosphere, as the sun sets over the city.
Then at nightfall, a giant 350 square metre cinema screen is hydraulically raised to stand three‐storeys‐high over the harbour. A 1900 seat grandstand, the latest in digital projection, and 32 speaker surround sound complete an unrivalled cinematic experience.
The film program is a festival of film, featuring premieres, previews and current releases, from blockbuster to arthouse and across a wide selection of genres. The 2015 season features 20 Australian premiere or preview screenings including The Theory of Everything, Wild, Inherent Vice, Birdman, Unbroken, Mortdecai, Foxcatcher, and Clouds of Sils Maria, as well as a selection of major December and January releases including; The Imitation Game, St Vincent and Mr Turner.
