It’s the summer of 1969 in idyllic Broome, where the fishing is good and living is easy. But shy Aboriginal teenager Willie has to leave behind all this and the girl he loves to honour his mum’s wish that he return to Perth to a strict religious boarding school and prepare himself for a life in the priesthood.

When the paternalistic rule of Father Benedictus becomes unbearable, Willie makes a dash for freedom. With the roguish Uncle Tadpole in tow, he hitches a lift  with a couple of mismatched hippies, and embarks on an hilarious and mishap filled journey home; all the time concerned about what his mum will do to him when he gets there, and all the way chased by the crazed Father Benedictus. As everyone will learn, life is full of surprises.

Packed with a wonderful cast, and accompanied by the joyous sounds of country gospel and Broome style Broadway dancing, this is a road musical that celebrates the adventure of finding your way home – the perfect way to kick off the 2010 season.
