Tarantino returns in grand style, employing pulp, propaganda and Pitt in equal measure to weave a larger-than-life tale of retribution. In occupied France, Shosanna Dreyfus narrowly escapes execution by the Nazis. She flees to Paris where she forges a new identity as the owner of a cinema. Elsewhere in Europe, Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Pitt) organises a group of Jewish American soldiers to perform swift, shocking acts of retribution. Known as “the basterds,” Raine’s squad joins a German actress/undercover agent on a mission to take down the leaders of the Third Reich…at a Parisian cinema.
