Irreverent and charming in equal measure, The Guard stands out as one of 2011’s most refreshing comedies. But when a mysterious murder takes place on his patch, his newly arrived deputy suddenly disappears, and FBI agent Wendell Everett (Cheadle) arrives investigating a drug ring, Boyle’s simple existence is severely challenged. When the three events are linked, the straight laced Everett finds himself taking on organised crime in the decidedly original and sometimes surreal world of Sergeant Gerry Boyle, the last of the independents!
